Adult Mental Health Services

The Mental Health Division provides services across Shropshire and South Staffordshire. Services are provided for Adult Mental Health and Services for Older People.

The Adult Mental Health Service consists of teams providing services through multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working for people of working age. They work in partnership with local councils and work closely with the voluntary sector, and independent and private organisations to promote the independence, rehabilitation, social inclusion and recovery of people with a mental illness.

Dementia Services provide both inpatient and community mental health services across South Staffordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and a small inpatient service to Powys. Our service is available for people of any age with Dementia.

Inpatient services in South Staffordshire are provided on two sites, St George's Hospital in Stafford and the George Bryan Centre in Tamworth.

Modernising Mental Health Services

Significant service improvements to Mental Health Services in our South Staffordshire have  been undertaken over the last three years.  Change to services has been prompted by issues such as the national move towards a ‘personalised’ service driven by service user needs. Local feedback from GPs, service users and carers has also highlighted the need for a reshaped service that is flexible, efficient and best able to meet future mental healthcare demands. Some improvements have already been made and the focus is now on showing how further planed developments will lead to a recovery-focussed service which delivers results.

In Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin we have undertaken significant modernisation of mental health services. Modernisation has reduced dependency on inpatient beds and ensured services are focussed on providing care as close as possible to service users’ homes, maximising the ability of service users to live independently with the support of enhanced and increased community mental health services including crisis resolution and home treatment.
